UID Nameplates, Barcodes, Variable Data Nameplates & Labels

Nelson Nameplate has the equipment to efficiently produce UID nameplates, barcodes and other variable data nameplates and labels.  We utilize processes such as MetalPhoto, laser etching and digital printing depending on the type and style of nameplate or label that you require.

UID

UID (Unique Identification) nameplates, also known as IUID (Item Unique Identification) nameplates, were developed by the Department of Defense (DoD) to improve asset management.

UID labels may be necessary if:

  • Acquisition cost is greater than $5000.00

  • The item requires permanent identification, is serially managed, is mission critical or essential, or is inventory controlled

  • The UID requirement has been required by the program manager.

Nelson Nameplate can assist you in understanding the requirements and options.  The DoD guidelines provide details as to what construct is required and Nelson can assist with processes available to produce the most economical item to satisfy the requirements.

       Constructs:

  • Construct #1: Serialization within the enterprise identifier.

  • Construct #2: Serialization within the original part number, lot number or batch number.

  • Data Matrix code only:   For space limited parts.

Barcodes

Barcodes allow for ease of tracking and asset management.  Nelson Nameplate has several options that allow for economical production of barcodes.  Barcode labels can be produced on metal or plastic.  We also provide barcodes on membrane switch products when required.

Variable Data (aka On-Demand Printing)

Variable data is defined as any data (numbers, letters, icons etc.) that are different on each individual part.  Many customers use customized model numbers, names or logos to aid in sales or product family management.   Nelson Nameplate can utilize our digital printing technologies to customize labels, nameplates or membrane switches and develop an ordering system that works for your procurement requirements.
