Printing UL certification marks on labels and overlays:
UL carefully controls the use of their Registered Certification
mark. Upon the successful completion of a UL engineering investigation
of a product, UL will authorize a manufacturer to apply their Mark
on the product. Companies utilizing UL's "Type R" follow-up
service will have their label or overlay layout reviewed and approved
by UL.
After receiving UL approval of the layout, labels and overlays may
be purchased from an authorized UL label printer. Nelson is a
UL authorized label printer. The construction of the label need
not be a recognized component.
Nelson UL Recognized Components:
Nelson has submitted certain label constructions to UL for testing
under UL969. The constructions outlined below are UL recognized
components in UL file number MH11040:
- NELITHO NNP 502: .003" - .032" aluminum with 3M 467MP
or 3M 468MP pressure sensitive adhesive, screen printed, available
with optional clear coating. Indoor or outdoor use.
- NELITHO NNP 504: .003" - .032" aluminum with 3M 467MP
or 3M 468MP pressure sensitive adhesive, lithographic printed, available
with optional clear coating. Indoor or outdoor use.
- MYCAL NNP 102: 3M 7920, 3M 7921, 3M 7923, screen printed, available
with optional cold seal laminate. Indoor or outdoor use.
- MYCAL NNP 104: 3M 7950, screen printed, available with optional
cold seal laminate. Indoor or outdoor use.
- MYCAL 112: .003" - .010" polyester with 3M 467MP or
3M 468MP pressure sensitive adhesive, screen printed, available
with optional U.V. hardcoats. Indoor use only.
- MYCAL 114: .003" - .010" polyester with 3M 467MP or
3M 468 MP pressure sensitive adhesive, screen printed. Indoor or
outdoor use.
- NELTEX 202: .005" - .030" polycarbonate with 3M 467MP
or 3M 468MP pressure sensitive adhesive, subsurface screen printed,
available with optional U.V. hardcoats. Indoor or outdoor use.
- NELITE 282: 3M 7980, 3M 7983 screen printed. Indoor use only.
- NELITE 284: 3M 7980, 3M 7983 screen printed. Indoor or outdoor
use.

CSA International pre-approves labels
used on certified equipment which bear safety information and warning
messages for end-users. Pre-tested labeling systems are recognized
by CSA for different conditions (e.g., indoors, outdoors, etc.)
Nelson’s CSA certified processes are identical to the UL Recognized
processes. If a CSA certified process is requested, Nelson will
add its CSA designated identification mark to the label near the
CSA logo.
Nelson CSA listed processes:
- ALUMINUM: .005" - .035" screen printed, lithographic
printed, or black anodized, with 3M 467MP or 3M 468MP pressure sensitive
adhesive. Available with optional epoxy clear coat. Indoor or outdoor
use.
- POLYESTER: .002" - .004" white or silver, screen printed,
3M 400 series pressure sensitive adhesive, available with optional
clear, matte, or computer imprintable polyester. Indoor or outdoor
use. (3M 7920, 3M 7921, 3M 7923)
- POLYESTER: .003" - .004" clear polyester, screen printed,
3M 300 series pressure sensitive adhesive, available with optional
clear matte, or computer imprintable polyester. Indoor or outdoor
use. (3M 7950)
- POLYESTER: .005" - .012" clear polyester, subsurface
screen printed, 3M 467MP or 3M 468MP pressure sensitive adhesive.
Indoor or outdoor use.
- POLYCARBONATE: .005" - .025" subsurface screen printed,
3M 467MP or 3M 468MP pressure sensitive adhesive. (Lexan 8010, Lexan
8B35).
- COMPUTER IMPRINTABLE: .0035" - .0045" white or silver
polyester, screen printed, 3M 300 series pressure sensitive adhesive.
